OUR MISSION

The mission of the Charles Adams Studio Project is to serve as a cornerstone in the Lubbock Arts District by developing and sustaining a working artists’ community that actively engages the public with the arts.

OUR HISTORY

CASP is the vision of Charles Adams, who was born and raised in Lubbock. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and ran an art gallery (“Clean Well Lit Space”) in New York before returning to Lubbock in 1980. He brought back with him a wish to have a space to live and work downtown. After beginning the process of creating his own gallery, he quickly realized that his initial vision had the potential to expand by creating studios for artists to work alongside him in what would eventually become the arts district. This dream became reality thanks to the support of Margaret Talkington, The CH Foundation, Helen DeVitt Jones Foundation, alongside other generous patrons and foundations.

On June 10, 2011 CASP officially received its 501c3 status, and what was once only an idea blossomed into what it is today, an anchoring organization of the Arts and Culture District in Lubbock.

Since, CASP has built and maintained studios that are open and accessible to the public. Our facilities are designed to provide artists with space, specialized equipment, educational opportunities, and galleries. CASP continues to promote an environment of creative exchange and community engagement through a wide range of programming including public workshops, First Friday Art Trail, artist residencies, fellowships, and more.

CASP is proud to offer this programming to the West Texas community, and we are grateful for the generous support of all those who continue to invest in our work here in downtown Lubbock and beyond.

After 30 years of successfully owning and operating his own gallery, Adams is now retired, and still lives in his downtown residence in Lubbock

OUR VISION

A vibrant and sustained working artist community in Downtown Lubbock, Texas that offers the public a window into the art making process.

  • Creativity – We believe that creativity is part of the human experience, and we value those who continue to engage with the creative exchange fostered by CASP.
  • Sustainability – Ensuring the resources we provide remain for years to come is the guiding force of our work. CASP is built to last.
  • Community – It takes all of us to bring to life the work that CASP is doing. CASP without our artists is just empty studios.

This vital work would not be possible without the generous support of community members like you. To learn more about how you can take part in making Lubbock a more vibrant place to live and work please click here.
