WORK STUDIOS

Flatlands Dance Theatre is Lubbock's nonprofit professional dance company. Founded in 2010, FDT produces completely original art works, often in collaboration with other artists, organizations, and businesses in the region. FDT has produced more than 40 original concerts, toured to nine states and across Texas, and served over 40,000 community members since 2010. FDT produces two original shows per season at the LHUCA Firehouse, hosts the annual Young Dancers Workshop for children ages 5-16, and hosts the new Dancing Musician Workshop for public arts educators. FDT is the 2020 recipient of the Williams D. Kerns Award for the Performing Arts.

Engaging with the Lubbock community downtown has been critical in reaching FDT's longstanding goal of making original dance and dance education accessible to everyone in our community.

WTDR Dance Company is a dynamic and inclusive dance organization dedicated to empowering young dancers through artistic expression, discipline, and community engagement. Founded on the principles of excellence, creativity, and mentorship, WTDR provides high-quality dance training while fostering a supportive environment that encourages personal and artistic growth.

With a strong focus on technique and performance, WTDR offers a diverse range of dance styles, including majorette, contemporary, hip-hop, and jazz. The company serves as a platform for dancers to develop their skills, gain confidence, and experience the joy of performing. Through rigorous training, choreography, and performance opportunities, WTDR dancers learn the value of hard work, teamwork, and resilience—qualities that serve them both on and off the stage.

Beyond the studio, WTDR is deeply committed to community engagement. The company regularly participates in local events, parades, and performances, collaborating with organizations such as the Marvelous Matadors to celebrate cultural traditions and promote the arts in Lubbock. Through these efforts, WTDR not only showcases its dancers' talents but also strengthens connections within the community, creating opportunities for artistic expression and collaboration.

Mentorship and leadership development are at the heart of WTDR’s mission. The company strives to create a safe and encouraging space where young dancers feel supported in their artistic journeys.
